BHS Academic UIL Team Brings Home Awards from State

On Tuesday, May 16, Baird HS sent eight students to compete at the UIL State competition in Austin. It was a long week, but Baird was able to bring home several state medals! Notably, Brady Deel is the 1A State Champion in Literary Criticism. She had her personal best score, and her score was high enough to be in the top 15 for 1A-6A. We came back with more medals than we took students! With only one senior competing, we expect to see repeat visits to Austin in our future.

Students  who competed were Autumn Pittman (Sr), Haileigh Coleman (Jr.), Brady Deel (Jr.), Jadyn Smedley (Jr.), Bree Tennison (Jr.), Westen Isenhower (So.), Taelor Stephens (So.), and Ashlyn Crawford (Fr.). 

Results:

• State Champion in Literary Criticism: Brady Deel
• State Runner-Up Team in Literary Criticism: Brady Deel, Bree Tennison, Jadyn Smedley, and Westen Isenhower
• 3rd Place in Editorial Writing: Taelor Stephens
• 3rd Place in Copy Editing: Ashlyn Crawford
• 3rd Place in Prose Interpretation: Haileigh Coleman
• 4th Place in Poetry Interpretation: Bree Tennison
