SR/JR Workday!!!

Posted Date: 4/11/24 (3:10 PM)

Today, while our younger students were taking their English STAAR test, the juniors and seniors had a “work day” around Baird.

They worked at The Depot, cleaned up some local homes, worked at Mission of Miracles, they Planted plants downtown Baird, Picked up trash on the interstate, and some stayed on campus and helped with building our security fences.

When they got back to school, they were worn plum out, it was a great day of service from our Bears!

Site-Based Decision Committee Meeting - 4/8/24 at 10:30 am

Posted Date: 4/02/24 (11:20 AM)

Earlier this morning we sent out an invitation for a Site Based Decision Making Committee meeting at 10:30 am on Monday, April 8.  This meeting is to begin working on our Campus Needs Assessment (CNA).  The Elementary is a Title I campus, which means we receive federal grant funds based on the numbers of low-income students enrolled on the campus.  The CNA is a requirement for this grant.

We do realize that 10:30 AM is not a good time for many of our parents to meet, but Monday is a teacher workday and we scheduled the meeting primarily to get feedback from our teachers.  When we hold such a meeting, we are required to invite parents, community members, and local business leaders.  If you are able to attend, we welcome you and your feedback, but if you are unable to attend, please be assured that there will be additional meetings later in the Spring where you can share your thoughts.

BHS Students Selected To Take Part in the Hendrick Healthcare Academy
Brittney Bilby and Kaydence Poston will be taking part in the Hendrick's Healthcare Academy, beginning in the fall. The Healthcare Academy is for students in grades 9-12. Participants attend a healthcare expo featuring various demonstrations of jobs in the medical field. In addition, they participate in an open lab at Cisco College to experience “a day in the life” of a healthcare student, and job shadow healthcare professionals at Hendrick Health.

Through the academy, high school students learn about all of the career options in healthcare,” said Toni Brockway, director of workforce development at Hendrick Health. “They often think of physicians and nurses, but there are many other rewarding specialties in medical settings as well.”

Students who declare intent to pursue a healthcare career will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships for dual-credit classes, as well as tuition assistance for several post-high school healthcare academic programs is also available.

Tips for Parents - Developing Healthy Digital Habits
This week is the third week of a series of tips from healthychildren.org to help give you some ideas on how to help your kids develop healthy habits online.
Tip 3:  Talk about social media
  • Start regular, open-minded conversations with your children (even the youngest ones!) about their social media use, and yours.
  • Ask questions like:
    • What do you like about social media platforms?
    • How do you feel when you're on social media? And when I'm on social media?
    • Have you seen anything concerning?
  • Help children understand:
    • What's real and what's edited.
    • How to recognize ads or inappropriate content.
    • How media and emotions connect.
  • Make sure your kids know they can come to you about their experiences online.

Way to Go! #RTB
