Technology Tips

A cartoon hand holds a phone with social media icons, promoting the 'Hot Water Challenge'.

Hot Water Challenge - A Dangerous Prank

A dangerous online “prank” called the Hot Water Challenge has resurfaced, leading to serious injuries. In a recent case, a 12-year-old in Pennsylvania poured boiling water on his sleeping 9-year-old brother, causing severe burns and criminal charges. While some videos online may be staged, any prank involving real hot water can cause life-altering harm, or even death.

Parents and caregivers are urged to stay alert to online trends, monitor kids’ digital activity, and talk openly about why certain “challenges” are unsafe. Remind children that a quick laugh or social media post is never worth risking someone’s health or safety.
