The Baird High School Student Council will be hosting its annual Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the High School Auditorium. Immediately following there will be a luncheon for all Veterans, Active Duty Military and their families in the Rock Gym. We look forward to seeing you and honoring you as we celebrate Veterans Day.
Each year we do a slideshow of our veterans and active duty military personnel. We have been adding to this slideshow for many years and each year we become aware of veterans that we have left out. If you are a Veteran or have family members or friends who have served or are currently serving in the military, we want your/their picture to be included in our slideshow. We will scan the picture and return it to you or you can email the pictures to pgrimes@bairdisd.org . Please include name, rank, branch of service and where they served. Please help us get the word out so we don’t miss anyone. (We would appreciate having the pictures no later than November 7th to allow us time for production.)
Our students do an excellent job with this program and we want to make sure we are honoring all of our heroes.
If you have questions or suggestions, please contact Peggy Grimes at the high school

A new AI-powered Snapchat filter is trending among teens. This feature allows users to type a command and instantly generate realistic photos of people doing whatever is being described — even if those people never posed for the image or gave permission.
While many teens experiment out of curiosity, others have already used it in concerning ways. At Byron High School in Illinois, administrators recently addressed an incident where students used the filter to create fake, inappropriate images of their peers.
This situation is an important reminder for all families: AI-generated images can look real, spread quickly, and cause real harm.
A What Parents/Guardians Should Know
-
How It Works: Snapchat’s new “Imagine Lens” feature uses artificial intelligence to create photo-like images based on text prompts (TechRadar).
-
Privacy Risks: Allows anyone to generate fake images of another person without their consent.
-
Cyberbullying Potential: Fake images can be used to embarrass or target others, even if not widely shared.
-
Confusion Between Real & Fake: Teens may struggle to tell what’s real online, especially in emotionally charged situations.
-
Data Concerns: Snapchat’s “My Selfie” tool can use personal images for ads unless settings are adjusted (The Verge).
n What Parents/Guardians Can Do
-
Check Privacy Settings: Go to Snapchat → Settings → My Selfie → Ads and turn off permissions that use your or your child’s likeness.
-
Set Clear Boundaries: Explain the why behind each boundary so your child learns to make safe, thoughtful choices even when you’re not there to supervise.
-
Encourage Reporting: If your child sees something inappropriate or harmful, remind them to report it to a trusted adult and to contact Snapchat directly.
-
Promote Integrity Online: Talk about using technology responsibly and respectfully — even when joking or experimenting with new features is tempting.

OpenAI announced it will soon allow erotica and other mature content on ChatGPT for verified adult users, as part of a new age-gating system launching in December. CEO Sam Altman says this aligns with the company’s goal to “treat adult users like adults.”
The update follows a wave of feedback about recent ChatGPT changes. After briefly making GPT-5 the default model, OpenAI reintroduced GPT-4o due to user preference for its more personable tone.
Altman also addressed mental health concerns, noting that ChatGPT had been made more restrictive to protect users but that the company now has better tools to detect distress. OpenAI has formed a new “Well-Being and AI Council” to guide responses to sensitive issues — though some experts have criticized the lack of suicide prevention specialists on the panel.
Parents should be aware that even with new age restrictions, tech-savvy kids can often find ways around verification systems. This is a timely reminder to talk with children about appropriate online behavior and to monitor how they engage with AI tools.
