Tech Tip for Families
Too Much Screen Time?
In a recent email I received from Common Sense Media, they discussed dual-screening. This could be looking at one thing on one side of a screen and something else on another. This could also be using two or more devices at the same time (watching TV and scrolling on the phone).

The article said, "In addition to attention spans, these practices cause concern about in-person connections and our collective well-being, for kids and for ourselves. Devices can definitely become a pacifier of sorts, easy to pick up when bored or anxious, consciously or unconsciously.

That's where we come in:

Though we can't erase sludge content, we can give kids the tools to reflect and "right-size" their tech use so that it doesn't crowd out internal coping strategies, in-person connections, or even under-stimulated moments that might bloom into creativity.

Our article Offline Digital Citizenship: Soft Skills to Support Strong Online Habits is a great place to start for resources and activity ideas."

Here are a few of those ideas:
  • Connect with empathy
  • Raise kids' awareness
  • Supplement off-screen skills
