Notes for Absences

Posted Date: 1/31/25 (11:00 PM)

As we move into February, we’d like to remind everyone about the importance of submitting notes for any student absences. While we expect students to attend school every day, we understand that health issues or other situations can sometimes interfere. It’s important to follow the proper process for reporting absences to ensure that everything is documented accurately. Staying on top of this helps avoid any potential issues later on, such as attendance becoming a reason for a student to be denied credit or promotion at the end of the school year. Let’s work together to keep everything in good standing!

Baird ISD Attendance Policy: Parent Notes for Absences

In order to maintain academic excellence and ensure that students are present for instruction, Baird ISD has established the following guidelines for the use of parent notes to excuse absences:

  1. Limit on Parent Notes:
    • Students may submit a maximum of three (3) parent notes per academic year to excuse absences.
  2. Required Content of Parent Notes:
    • Each parent note must clearly state a valid excuse for the absence on each date, such as illness, family emergency, or other approved reasons.
    • The note must include the student’s full namedate(s) of absence, and specific reason for the absence.
  3. Submission Process:
    • Parent notes must be submitted to the school office within 3 school days of the student’s return to school.
    • Notes submitted after this deadline may not be accepted and the absence may remain unexcused.
  4. Validation of Absences:
    • The school administration reserves the right to verify the reasons provided in the parent note.
    • Absences that do not have a valid excuse, or that are not supported by a parent note, will be marked as unexcused.
  5. Additional Absences:
    • For absences beyond the three excused by parent notes, students must provide a note from a licensed medical professional, or other appropriate documentation, to excuse the absence.
    • Without such documentation, additional absences may be subject to disciplinary action or affect student attendance records.

This policy is designed to support student attendance while allowing flexibility for occasional unforeseen circumstances. Regular attendance is essential to student success, and Baird ISD encourages students and parents to make every effort to minimize absences.
